| Relocating to Sabah Malaysia soon... any advice? My american husband & I are relocating to Sabah Malaysia for his job assignment in a hospitality group. I'm a filipino chinese & is used to having filipina maids all my life. My main concern is, is it safe to hire a local malaysian help for a family of 3 & serves as nanny to my 6 yrs old son? He's very independent but still needs supervision of course during my absence. My job requires a lot of travelling and would have to leave my son to a trusted baby sitter or stay in maid from time to time. I'm having 2nd thoughts if I should bring our filipina helper w/us whom I had just newly hired. My long time nanny for 15 years is raising a family & leaving is out of the picture so this is a big dilemma for me. Its not only trust thats the issue here but hiring a filipina DH can be very expensive which ranges from $300-$400 usd a month plus benefits etc. I would appreciate any feedback re Sabah, from local maid, everyday living, safety issues & places to go for expat residents. Thanks to all. I apologize if my question seems to have stirred up Malaysians. Its a harmless question from an expat future residents of your country who by the way is contributing to your tourism and economy. Actually & as a matter of factly, I find Malaysians very warm and friendly... until this scurrilous answers. To those who took time to answer in a PROFESSIONAL manner, many thanks. Hi Tacey, Most of the maids in Sabah actually come from Philipine and Indonesia so it wouldn't be a problem for you to find Filipino maids here. |
